John R. Tamburri, Jr. was a son of Staten Island, New York City, New York who joined the Army during the Viet Nam War.  John served in the Aero Rifle Platoon (ARP's), a special group of soldiers from elite units such as the Green Berets, Army Rangers, 101st Airborne, and 82nd Airborne.  The Aero Rifle Platoon was under the 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment and awarded the wearing of a Black Beret (not worn by soldiers as it is today) by General George Patton III, then Colonel Patton III.

 

  On September 17, 1970 at the age of 19, John Richard Tamburri, Jr. gave his life in the service of our country in Binh Duong Province, South Viet Nam.
